#1. Sit Very Still While Your Doctor Injects the Botox

While Grand Rapids aesthetic physician Dr. Charles Solon may ask the patient to either smile or frown at specific moments during the procedure, Botox patients must take great care to remain completely still during treatment. By doing so, it ensured that the injection goes to its intended location, and the risk of bruising is also minimized.

#2. Don’t Touch (or Massage) Your Face after Botox

While patients occasionally feel tempted to feel the smooth, beautiful results of their Botox injections by touching their face, at SpaMedica GR in Grand Rapids, we urge our clients to resist the doing so. Once injected, Botox must be given time to set in its desired location. By touching, scratching or rubbing the injection sight, the patient risks moving the Botox away from its target area, thus ruining the effect and potentially negating the procedure.

#3. Disclose All Meds & Supplements You Take Before Botox

Considering that Botox is a medical procedure, during their consultation, patients should inform Grand Rapids aesthetic physician Dr. Solon of any medications or supplements they are taking. This includes both herbal remedies and over-the-counter drugs. Ibuprofen, for example, causes blood thinning, and if consumed in the days leading up to Botox injections, can subject the patient to harsher bruising following their procedure.

As a precaution, Dr. Solon may advise his Grand Rapids Botox patients to suspend taking certain medications or supplements for several days prior to their appointment – with the approval of the patient’s primary physician.

#4. Take it Easy After Botox

For a few days following their Botox treatment, our Grand Rapids patients must take especially good care of their “new face”. This involves refraining from consuming too much alcohol, which not only can result in dangerous dehydration, but may also impair the patient’s judgement enough to encourage them to touch their injection site.

Grand Rapids aesthetic physician Dr. Solon also advises patients to avoid any activity that causes any amount of sweating -no matter how minor- for at least 48 hours following Botox injections. So no running or working out for a least 2 days after getting Botox.

#5. Minimize Bruising After Botox

Patients who have a history of being prone to bruising can help minimize the effect by consuming Arnica tablets both a few days prior to and after their Botox injection. Bruising can also be treated by applying ice to the injection sight. (Note: never apply the ice directly to the skin!)
