Fat removal is great – but not if it leaves droopy, sagging skin afterwards! When the body experiences rapid weight loss, there is often unsightly loose skin left behind. And as one gets older, the body’s production of collagen and elastin declines dramatically – making the skin less elastic and unable to “snap back” into place after weight loss.

But while CoolSculpting offers non-invasive fat loss through fat freezing (“cryolipolysis”) it only “crystalizes” the fat cells, but does not tighten skin. So, with CoolSculpting, skin is often saggy after the fat loss.

Additionally, Body FX’s radiofrequency waves penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, reaching fat cells. This targeted heating disrupts the fat cells’ membranes, causing them to shrink and die. Gradually, your body eliminates these dead cells through its natural processes, leading to reduced fat bulges and smoother contours.

Further, the radiofrequency energy delivered by Body FX stimulates collagen and elastin production, improving skin elasticity and firmness. During BodyFX fat removal, our technician pinpoints specific areas of treatment with a handheld applicator that can be positioned for custom contouring and body shaping. The technician is present during the entire Body FX fat removal treatment, continually adjusting and customizing the application to literally “sculpt” the most attractive body contours.

CoolSculpting, however, uses a non-differentiating applicator that is applied in a stationary position and treats a single large area – with no ability for customized body shaping or contouring. In fact, during CoolSculpting, the device is put in place and the patient is left unattended as the technician leaves the room – until a paging system alarm alerts her that an issue needs attention or the treatment is over!

Body FX vs CoolSculpting: Comfort & Safety

BodyFX fat removal feels like a warm massage with mild vacuum pressure to gently “melt” the cells. CoolSculpting uses intense, uncomfortable cold to bring the fat cells to just above freezing in order to cause crystallization. 

After treatment BodyFX patients may immediately resume normal activities with no pain, no bruising and no swelling. Some redness or a feeling of warmth in the treated area may occur – but it will subside within a few hours.

However, CoolSculpting is known to leave patients with side effects – and in some cases even serious complications. Most CoolSculpting patients experience some bruising from the aggressive vacuum used during the procedure. The treated area may also feel sore when touched for up to a week – and/or be numb for as long as 6 weeks. It is also common for CoolSculpting patients to feel bloated and look swollen for up to a month.

CoolSculpting can also result in more serious complications such as: skin damage, ulceration or scarring; prolonged or severe pain; or, a visible depression under the skin from unevenness of the fat loss. In rare cases, some patients develop “adipose hyperplasia”, which actually results in the development of new fat deposits instead of fat removal!
